It’s Giveaway Day!

Posted on December 9, 2013 by Bonnie

Giveaway has ended! A winner will be announced very soon!
I absolutely LOVE Giveaway Day! If you’re visiting from Sew Mama Sew, Welcome! If you’re a regular here and haven’t popped over to SMS this morning, you simply must set aside some time to surf the world of crafty blogs and enter the hundreds of giveaways that will be offered by bloggers all over the world all week long: Craft Supply Giveaways & Handmade Item Giveaways.

It has been such a busy year for my little design business — I’ve released 18 new patterns this year! A large portion of those new releases have been part of a series called “Jersey Love”. I have had so much fun working with the amazing designer stretch jerseys that are on the market these days! This Giveaway Day, I thought I’d share the jersey love with you! There are two prize sets to choose from — a girl set and a boy set. The girl set includes one yard of Riley Blake Rainbow Chevron Jersey and 1/2 yard of RB Navy Dot Jersey, along with your choice of any of my patterns (paper or pdf) and five sew-on tags for that perfect finishing touch!

The boy set includes one yard of Riley Blake 1/2″ Gray & Yellow Stripe and 1/2 yard of RB 1″ Gray & White Stripe, along with your choice of any of my patterns (paper or pdf) and five of those Fishsticks Designs sew-on tags.Entering is really simple! All you have to do is comment on this post. If you do sew with knits, tell me what is your favorite thing about sewing them. If you don’t sew with knits, what is holding you back? Be sure to include your email address so I’ll know how to get in touch with you if you win. (Email addresses are never shared.) The drawing will run through December 13th at 2 p.m. eastern, a winner will be drawn at random from all entries, the winner will receive their choice of the boy set or the girl set, and this giveaway is open to US and international entries!

While you’re here, be sure to check out my growing list of free tutorials here on my blog, and all of my sewing patterns in the Fishsticks Designs Pattern Shop.

I have done some sewing with knits and find it a little tricky, but the main thing stopping me right now is time. A 1 and 3 year old really limit my time for sewing and crafting.

I have purchased a few knits but haven’t sewn with them yet. I think what’s holding me back is pure intimidation. Sticking with quilting right now b/c I’m comfortable with it, which means quicker Christmas gifts.

I’m a beginner in sewing with knits, I like that sewing with knits doesn’t require a lot of experience in fittings, but on the other hand it’s kind of hard to choose the right knit fabric (content, stretch) that’s suitable for each project …

Thank you for the chance …

I absolutely love sewing with knits!! It was the Charlie Tee pattern that got me started and I’m hooked! I love sewing clothes that my kids want to wear. They’re comfortable enough for everyday wear and with the right fabric combination, can even be dressy enough for church. I especially love knits on my toddler. She’s 15 months old and roly-poly. Knits are just so much more comfortable on her than some of the more constrictive clothes my older kids wear.

I’d love the girl set! The only sewing the jersey knits is converting a men’s t-shirt into leggings for my daughter’s Fawn the fairy Halloween costume. I don’t mind sewing with that fabric though find it challenging to keep it from puckering (does that term make sense). This could be because I’m relatively new to sewing (just started this past April … but have already made sundresses, skirts, and leggings for my girls). 🙂

I love sewing with knits, there is no unraveling and the finished product is way more comfy than woven cotten. I remember when I was learning to sew, I went to the fabric store for the first time and bought some knit fabric, because it felt more like what clothes should feel like, not knowing I was supposed to be intimidated by them. 🙂

I love wearing knits, as does my family, so I am working on sewing with knits. I have finally got the tools to sew well with knits. (A serger, coverstitcher and a Husqvarna Viking Rose sewing machine that has a stretch stitch. (I only had straight and zigzag machines before) and I know those aren’t necessary, but I didn’t have nice results with just a zigzag. I hope I win! Those sets are so cute!

What I love about sewing with knits is that I know they will get worn! They are so comfortable that the kids (and myself) don’t want to take them off! My ultimate choice would be the girl fabric with the v-neck pattern LOL

Knits are my absolute fave to sew with and lately it’s all I’ve been sewing with. Earlier this year I had a bit of an emergency situation – my little girl was almost 4 and was refusing to go any further with potty training. ACK! So I decided to design and sew some reusable bamboo potty training pants as a last ditch effort to finally train her. It worked! So I decided to work a little more on development and I’ve been selling them ever since. I make them out of knits with a bamboo inner lining and they’ve been flying off my “shelves”. Knits are so fantastic 😀

I’m hesitant to sew with knit. Just not sure how different it will be from cotton. I made myself a knit maxi skirt that turned out well but it was pretty basic.

I’ve only made a maxi skirt with a knit that required only ONE straight stitch seam down the side! Not hard at all. I’m a little hesitant to do anything more complicated b/c I’m afraid it will stretch and pucker while I sew! mrscwatson81@hotmail.com

I have only sewn with knits once, it was great! I made scarves for christmas presents. I think what have been holding me back is the fact that I can’t find knit fabric as easily as say cotton. Of course I can always buy online, but when buying fabric I like to be able to touch and feel it before I buy it

I love how jersey feels and wears. It’s so much more practical of a clothing fabric than quilting cotton! 🙂 That said, it’s hard to find cute jersey by-the-yard (without spending a bunch of money) and I’m not a good thrift store shopper, so I don’t sew with jersey much.
